Vietnam in Cathay Financial Group’s long-term growth roadmap
In the context of Vietnam entering a new phase of financial market development, Cathay Financial Group has identified Vietnam as its second key market in Asia, reaffirming a long term commitment through strong financial capacity, digital transformation, and an ESG strategy integrated across business operations, investment activities, and corporate governance.
Asia's leading financial platform: Cathay reaffirms its long term commitment to Vietnam as its second core market
With more than 60 years of experience in financial and insurance services, Cathay Financial Group is currently one of Taiwan’s leading financial groups, with total assets of approximately USD 468 billion as of September 2025. Its integrated ecosystem spans banking, life insurance, non life insurance, securities, and asset management. Through its integrated financial holding model, Cathay closely connects its banking business through Cathay United Bank, life insurance operations through Cathay Life Vietnam, and non life insurance operations through Cathay Insurance Vietnam into a unified ecosystem that optimizes capital allocation, strengthens risk management, and enhances long term operational sustainability.
In Vietnam, Cathay United Bank has maintained double digit growth in both revenue and profit for three consecutive years. The bank currently partners with more than 300 Vietnamese and Taiwanese enterprises, has participated in over 100 syndicated loan transactions, and has served as the lead arranger in nearly 20 deals. At the same time, Cathay Insurance Vietnam continues to play a key role in risk management within the integrated financial model, maintaining a compound annual growth rate of 20.6% over the past decade.
Building upon the capabilities and sustainable development philosophy of its parent company, Cathay Life Vietnam pursues a people centered insurance model focused on comprehensive life cycle protection solutions. The company has invested nearly VND 150 billion into technology infrastructure while developing comprehensive protection solutions based on the DRCS model, including D – Die (protection against mortality risks), R – Retire (retirement security), C – Child (supporting children’s future), and S – Sick (protection against illness related risks). Through this approach, the company designs systematic insurance solutions that simultaneously address protection, wealth accumulation, and long term financial planning needs.
Technology investment and ESG: The foundation of Cathay’s long term commitment in Vietnam
Digital transformation remains a core pillar of Cathay’s development strategy in Vietnam. Through Cathay United Bank, the group has implemented digital banking solutions built around data and technology, including a fully digital loan process that allows customers to complete their entire borrowing journey online within just a few minutes.
Meanwhile, Cathay Life Vietnam continues accelerating the adoption of digital technologies and AI, including tools such as AI Coach, to improve workforce productivity alongside electronic insurance contracts, mobile claims solutions, and digital advisory support platforms that enhance customer experience.
Alongside technology, ESG has been directly integrated into Cathay’s financial decisions and risk management strategy in Vietnam. A key milestone was the financing of the BIM wind power project in Ninh Thuận in partnership with the Asian Development Bank, marking the first green loan provided by Cathay United Bank in Vietnam and laying the foundation for future financing packages in green finance, energy efficiency, financial inclusion, and healthcare.
Mr. Chang Ken Lee, President of Cathay Financial Group, said:
At Cathay, we place strong emphasis on ESG related initiatives. We are not only involved in lending activities, but also invest through our life insurance business and private equity funds. We have undertaken numerous initiatives in green energy and sustainable finance and achieved positive outcomes and strong success in Taiwan. We look forward to bringing this experience to Vietnam.
